Vertical Expansion
2025

Relevant Skills:

Physical modelmaking, woodworking, spatial planning, researching, user experience,  schematic design, digital drawing, digital modeling, Photoshop, Illustrator
Architectural Design I
Instructors: Jessica Garcia-Fritz, Logan Schaub
Site: Red Lake Nation Tribal College

For my first graduate studio, we were given a site at the Red Lake Nation College in Minneapolis. The site is an infill where we would need to connect floor plates of differing heights in between the existing buildings of the college.

Through my design, I explored the design principles of material separation and datum lines.  Material density changes from top to bottom, with the densest material on top (the concrete cap), moving down to the enclosed dark wood and then finally to the airy, framed space below.

This explores the relationship between the public ground floor and the increasingly private space as the user ascends the apparatus. Atmosphere changes from airy and open to enclosed and private, with the concrete roof looming above.

Community Exchange
2024

Relevant Skills:

Physical modelmaking, woodworking, researching, user experience design, schematic design, digital drawing,  sketching
Materials
Instructor: William Weber
Site: Bridal Veil Gardens, Minneapolis

One of the most important considerations a designer must make during a project is the selection of materials. The focus of this studio was to consider how materials are created, what purpose they serve, and how they effect the world around us - before, during, and after our use of them.

In groups, we chose an item that could be exchanged with the community. We chose seeds. Using  a little library book exchange as our precedent, we decided that our exchange point should be stationed in a community garden, where seeds and vegetables can be easily exchanged with the community. Our seed exchange point had to be created and fastened using only found materials. The exchange point had to be able to be assembled and taken apart in order for the materials to reenter the material stream and be utilized for other projects.

Sporting Plans
2026

Relevant Skills:

Physical modelmaking, spatial planning, researching, user experience design, schematic design, digital drawing, digital modeling, Photoshop, Illustrator
Architectural Design II
Instructors: Federico Garcia-Lammers, Logan Schaub
Site: Joy of the People, Saint Paul, Minnesota

For this studio, we focused on a study of “play” through a specific lens. My lens was gender politics and sports. Using our research on our specific theory, we responded to our findings through the design of an expansion of a beloved futsal facility in Saint Paul, Minnesota called Joy of the People. The expansion responded to specific size and program requirements while also implementing a deign solution that responded to our developed Play Theory.

The Box
2024

Relevant Skills:

Physical modelmaking, researching, sketching
Materials + Exchange
Instructor: William Weber

In a similar vein to the community  exchange, we were also tasked with an individual project. With a found material of our choosing, we researched the origins of the material and its effects on the world equitably, ecologically, and economically.

The material I chose for this project was a common plastic grocery bag. I had a collection of more than I could count under the sink in my kitchen and I thought it would be interesting to research and utilize these abandoned items.

Similar to the exchange, we had to use our material, and our material only, to create a functional box with a functional lid that could open and close.

Representation + Translation
2024

This studio focused primarily on how we represent work. For my first project, I selected from a pallette of projects by different firms across the world.

Using my selection, I was tasked with representing their work exactly as they did.

I selected the Double House by MDRDV architects. This is a structure that contains two single-family homes in Utrecht, Netherlands. From their website I selected a section drawing and upon futher research I selected a plan of the first floor to recreate as well.

I  used only Rhino to create these representations.
ARCH 3231: Experimental Techniques in Architectural Representation

Instructor: Molley Reichert

After recreating the MDRDV representation, I was tasked with picking a different architecture firm to study their representation style.

After analyzing their style, I would translate my original project into a new style. I picked Dogma architects to analyze and translate the Double House into their style. Through my analysis I discovered that the architects first render the project in 3D, then export it digitally before then translating it into a 2D drawing
